Building a course around the Man Booker

Here is proof that winning the Man Booker is guaranteed canonization. But, what a great idea for a course: critiquing ten years of Booker winners. See http://www.themanbookerprize.com/perspective/articles/1300

  1. Yes, that's a very interesting link. However, since our -- and I guess your -- courses cannot be overly 'literary,' however that were to be defined, building courses around the Man Booker probably won't do for us. But it's a nice idea nonetheless: would love to do it should circumstances change!

  2. Or even undertake it as a personal project. Read each book within the cultural climate of its time. The Man Booker "One that got away" has just been announced. Should make for an interesting read as comment on the extent to which the winner is more appropriate to a contemporary reader than the books that lost out!
